HAIR EXTENSIONS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Not every salon that offers extensions has certified stylists with the experience necessary to apply extensions correctly.  At Extensions of Beauty, we have over 20 years of experience and hair extensions are our specialty. The process can take between 1.5 hours to a full day depending upon the type and the amount of extensions.

Hair extensions can be attached using a variety of methods including thread, tape, beads, and keratin.

I've heard horror stories of hair extensions tangling up. How do I avoid this?

Whenever hair extensions tangle, it is almost always a result of poor hair quality and poor maintenance. If you are interested in extensions, always look for 100% Raw Human Remy Hair and a specialist who uses high-quality 100% remy human hair.   Also, you are the key factor in maintenance of your hair once you leave the salon.  It's crucial that your hair is brushed from root to ends at least twice daily, place your hair in a loose braid or ponytail while sleeping to avoid ripping/tearing, and do not sleep with we extensions or leave them wet for an extended period after washing.

With remy hair, each and every strand is cuticle correct. This means that the cuticle layer of all of the strands is running in the same direction. Remy hair is gently processed, and it looks and feels just like your own natural hair. It is easy to manage and style with very few tangles.

Non-remy hair extensions are created from lower quality hair, taken from brushes or off the floor, stripped of its cuticle layer, and coated with a silicone layer to appear shiny. After a few washes, the silicone layer washes off and the problems begin. Tangling, matting, and knotting all occur, and the hair becomes messy and unruly.

With quality hair that is cuticle correct, tangling is rarely an issue. If hair does tangle, it is typically minimal and fingers or a wide-tooth comb can be used to detangle.

How much do hair extensions cost?

The cost of hair extensions varies from $100 - $2800+.  When you think of hair extension pricing you can think of it as purchases gas for a car.  How much gas do you need to get you to where you're going? Are you adding volume-only to your hair? Are you adding volume and length.  How much volume, how much length?

Are you driving a compact car or a large SUV? So when it comes to variation of prices, the methods in which the hair extensions are installed are a factor.  So methods are very intricate and take hours to install.

Can I brush, curl, blow dry, and wash my hair extensions?
Yes. You can blow dry, curl, brush, and wash your hair extensions just like your normal hair. We suggest letting your hair air dry and using a wide-tooth comb or special hair extension brush to detangle. Blow dryers, flat irons, and other heat styling tools can be drying to your extensions if used too often, so to keep your hair looking shiny and vibrant, keep heat styling to a minimum.

How do I wash my hair extensions?

Wash the hair in one direction from top to bottom. Avoid washing hair upside down. Use professional shampoos and conditioners that are designed for dry hair and will add moisture without weighing your hair down. Keep in mind that the hair extensions no longer attached to a live source and is dependant on you to supply the moisture and nutrients it needs to remain healthy for as long as possible.  Sulfate-free shampoo can be an excellent choice, but special care needs to be given to your hair and extensions for optimal results.

Can I swim and go in the ocean?
Swimming in pools and hot tubs is okay, but it is best to wash your hair right after. We recommend avoiding swimming in the ocean and in salt water as the salt can take all the moisture out of the hair and cause it to tangle. It is a great idea to add a leave-in conditioner before and after swimming.

Will anyone know I am wearing hair extensions?
When properly applied, no one should be able to tell that you are wearing hair extensions. We will assist you in choosing the right color and curl pattern so your extensions will be virtually undetectable.
