Surefire Ways to Choose Hair Extensions That Will Look Great

If you're new to the wonderful world of hair extensions, the first thing that you'll want to do is look for salons that do hair extensions. Don't just choose the first salon that you find. The salon must have hair extension certification. Certification assures you that the stylist has learned the proper techniques to apply the various types of extensions. Once you find your salon, it's time to choose your extensions.

Synthetic or Human Hair

If you're spending money at the salon to have hair extensions put in, human hair is the only sensible option. Almost all salons carry human hair extensions for this reason.

  • You'll want to wash your hair, and human extensions can be cleaned just like the rest of your hair.

  • You can heat-style human hair. Curl your extensions, straighten them, or blow-dry them with no issues.

  • Human hair looks completely natural and will blend in perfectly with your hair.

Methods Used to Attach Your Extension

There are different methods of attachment for your extensions, and the three most popular methods, including taped in, weaved in, and fusion.

  • Taped in extensions is the fastest way. This method is excellent for smooth thin hair. One downside to this method is you can't wash your hair for two days after application as they need time to bond.

  • Sewn-in hair extensions are also called weave hair extensions. These extensions are incredibly secure and not prone to slipping. It is time-consuming, and you can expect to sit in the chair for a few hours. They are a great option if you have coarse or thick hair.

  • Fusion is the bonded method of hair extensions. This process can take up to eight hours to complete. However, it is suitable for all hair types, looks completely natural, and is one of the longest-lasting applications. This type can last for up to six months.

Choosing Your Color

When it comes to choosing colors for your extensions, there are a few ways that you can go. Choose your natural color, so they blend in perfectly. You can also choose a lighter color to add highlights. There are as many colors as there are natural hair colors. When you select natural hair extensions, you can even color them along with your hair. Most clients choose their natural color.

Now that you've learned about the different types of extensions, and the various methods of application, choosing the best for your hair type and your needs should be easy. Hair extensions are an excellent way to add volume and length to your hair without having to wait for it to grow out.
